This creative idea came from a Science Oxford Wonderful Wind workshop at the Oxfordshire Museum we went to way back in Nov 2016! The workshop was really engaging and I’d highly recommend checking out Science Oxford’s other workshops. As one of the activities we made this brilliant balloon CD hovercraft. Here’s how to make it:
You will need:
- Old CD
- Sports drink cap
- Hot melt glue/super glue
- Balloon
How to make the balloon CD hovercraft:
- Attach the sports drink cap to the middle of the CD with hot melt glue or superglue. The hole in the CD should match up with the wide hole of the drink cap.
- Keeping the sports drink cap closed, blow up the balloon and fit the neck of the balloon over the sports drink cap.
- Your hovercraft is now ready! Place your hovercraft on a smooth table or floor. To make the hoevercraft go, carefully open up the sports drink cap. The air comes out of the balloon through the sports cap and moves the CD around.
