Summer of Fun at Discover Bucks Museum
20 July - 3 September
There’s so much to do for all the family at the museum this summer!
This summer Discover Bucks Museum in Aylesbury have a packed programme of activities to keep all the family entertained.
From a galaxy far, far away comes May The Toys Be With You, a stellar exhibition of one of the UK’s finest collections of vintage Star Wars toys and original movie posters opens on 20 July – a must for little kids and ‘big kids’ alike. Meet the Stormtroopers on 20 July.
Discover Bucks Museum will be running Special Family Craft Days from 24 July to 30 August. Choose from Make-A-Toy Mondays, Out-Of-This-World Wednesdays and Fantastic Fridays. Each session has a different theme so you can try something different throughout the holidays.
During your visit to the museum experience the Sensory Playroom, Toy Room and Tudor Mural Activity in our Tudor Rooms or try one of our exciting new Discovery Duck Activity Trails which are a fun way to explore our stunning Discover Bucks Galleries.
In the beautiful walled garden, come rain or shine under our marquee, younger visitors can enjoy the Garden Play Zone with water and sand play, giant games and outdoor toys. And for hands-on fun inspired by Roald Dahl’s stories visit the fabulous Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery.
Enjoy the garden café too for light snacks and drinks.

May The Toys Be With You

Not to be missed this summer is ‘May The Toys Be With You’, one of the UK’s finest collections of vintage Star Wars toys and original cinema posters. This is a must for fans of Star Wars, the silver screen and for ‘kids’ of all ages. Meet the Stormtroopers on 20 July.
Bucks Culture Open Weekend
Dig, Dig, Sparkle, Jingle-Jangle, Clink: Sensory storytelling with Collar & Cuffs
Saturday 27 July, Story Timings: 12pm – 12.30pm, 1.30pm – 2pm & 2.30pm – 3pm
Join award-winning sensory theatre company, Collar & Cuffs Co, for a sensory exploration of the discovery of the Lenborough Hoard, a hidden treasure trove of Anglo-Saxon coins. Expect singing, movement and silvery, sparkling delights to stimulate every sense. This sensory storytelling session is signed in Makaton and is suitable for early years children and people of all ages with SEND, including those with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD). You can also celebrate Bucks Culture Open Weekend by decorating a square of our giant patchwork quilt to help us create a piece of art that is as colourful and diverse as Bucks itself. All welcome. Free with museum admission.

Retro Film and TV Quiz
3 August, 7pm-10pm
Grab your friends and come and test your retro film and television knowledge in our quiz covering all genres including children’s TV, theme tunes, TV and movies from the 60,70,80,90s. Quiz begins at 7.30pm with a bar available from 7pm to purchase alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and snacks all evening. Prize for the winning team and during the interval enjoy a touch of magic! Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery
Open Saturdays & Sundays and every day from 20 July to 3 September
Crawl along Fantastic Mr Fox’s tunnel, investigate minibeasts inside the Giant Peach, explore sound with the BFG in this fabulous hands-on gallery at Discover Bucks Museum. The amazing exhibits inspired by Roald Dahl’s stories make discovering science and the world we live in even more fun.
